Gibson Les Paul Custom 1972/3 - Used
Gibson Les Paul Custom finished in Cherry Sunburst.
Made in USA - 1972/3
A 'players grade' example of this super rare Les Paul. Made for a short period between '72 and '73 when Gibson embossed the pick-up covers with their logo.
The bridge and stoptail have been upgraded to Faber but the originals are in the case; an original Gibson 'chainsaw' case from slightly later which functions but has seen better days. There's a variety of other parts included. It has had a previous re-fret. The top-nut has been upgraded to a brass one. The original frets and top-nut are included.
No previous breaks, cracks or repairs.
We have given it a full service including a fret dress, set-up and intense clean. It plays great and sounds awesome.
More photos available upon request.
Other specific features of this era Les Paul include the Pancake Body - a sandwich of Mahogany, Maple and Mahogany with a maple cap. The Volute: This is a small, raised bump or wedge of wood carved into the back of the neck directly behind the nut. Gibson introduced it to strengthen the notorious "weak spot" where the headstock angles back, reducing the likelihood of headstock snaps. 3-Piece Mahogany neck: Unlike the late-70s models that used maple necks, the '72/'73 features a three-piece mahogany neck. T-Top Humbuckers, "Witch Hat" Knobs and "Waffleback" Tuners.
